Headed to the NKCA Show in Dalton, Georgia

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

nkca-show-dalton-ga-001.jpgWhile I don’t have many opportunities to attend knife shows with my biz travels and family activities. This time the stars aligned. Here’s the deal- I have a biz meeting in Atlanta on Thursday, which puts me only an hour away. My wife and kids are going to a camp (and no I didn’t send my wife to a camp so I could go to the show) on Friday and Saturday. So, the net gain is this- I am headed to Dalton tomorrow afternoon. Friday I’ll be there when the doors open and will hang til at least mid-day on Saturday.

Usually I only have a few hours to scope out the toenails for sale and to say hello to a few folks. For this show I going to have more time than I have ever had at a show. I have my ET.com host hat on- video and regular cameras ready.

Many of the members here at ET.com haven’t been to a knife show before, therefore my goal is to capture the essence of it for them using both video and pictures. I would like to record a couple of on-camera interviews, some “News” reporting, as well as identifying the toenails for sale. Actually, my agenda makes my head spin, so wish me luck. I’ll give you a run down next week.

2006 W R Case Swap Meet AuctionIf you like 1) Knife folks, 2) Knife Auctions and 3) W R Case, then mark your calenders now for the Big Event for 2008! The date of the upcoming W R Case Collectors Appreciation Day is July 18th/19th in Bradford, PA.  I was honored to have been asked to be the guest auctioneer for the 2006 Swap Meet. I had a blast and guess I did an OK job because they have asked me to come back. I can’t wait.

The Largest Knife Auction Ever

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

I can’t believe it. I flipped through the hardcopy catalog I received todayknife_cover.jpg and just shook my head, for two reasons: One- because we as toenail collectors think toenails are getting expensive and because I am very impressed with the collection Mr. Littman amassed. There are 143 pages of knives (no toenails I already looked). Hundreds of knives, and some really expensive ($100,000- $150,000) individual knives. Can’t wait to see how many millions this sale brings in (plus I am an auctioneer and think how much fun it would be to do a knife auction).

Another of the last few original toenail makers closes its doors

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

As reported in the December edition of Knife World, Camillus has gone out of business. I can imagine it is hard to compete against the foreign makers.
