Welcome to the most extensive reference library & photo gallery dedicated exclusively to the vintage Elephant Toenail Knife

Come in and discover this vintage American knife pattern, early cutlery company history and the enjoyment of knife collecting.

Many of the granddaddies of the early American cutlery companies made the elephant toenail- sunfish beginning around 1900 to the 1930's.

Each manufacturer attempted to distinguish their knives from the competition by using different styles, handle materials and jiggings, thereby providing us with a tremendous variety of toenails to collect.

One of the biggest challenges collectors of Toenails had faced was identifying the different brands and variations this vintage knife pattern. The List represents the most exhaustive list of toenail varieties available.

The Knife  area provides a detailed description, history and interesting information about this peculiar knife and its designed use. Also learn why the knife is known as a Sunfish knife, as well as its many other names!
